The city of Abeokuta is gearing up to welcome the esteemed 2024 South West Authors Forum (SWAF) this weekend, heralding a gathering of literary luminaries from across the region.
Scheduled to take place at the ASSUS Secretariat in Leme, Abeokuta, the three-day conference, under the theme “Fostering National Unity Through Creativity,” is poised to delve into the significance of literature in fostering unity and coherence within Nigeria.
The State Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Dr. Chris Omotosho disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday .
Omotosho said the event promises to be a platform for insightful discussions, engaging sessions, and the exchange of ideas among writers, scholars, and literary enthusiasts, all geared towards charting a path towards a more unified Nigeria.
He revealed that dignitaries exoected at the event include ; the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola, who will be the chairman of the conference.
He added that Kehinde Onasanya, the Ogun State Head of Service, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, highlighting governmental recognition of the arts.
According to him, the conference promises intellectual depth with Dr. P. E. Ezenandu, a renowned Educationist and Director of Internal Quality Assurance at the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, set to deliver the keynote address.
He said Dr. Ezenandu’s expertise is expected to enrich discussions on harnessing creativity for societal cohesion.
According to him, with over one hundred writers from Oyo, Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, and Ogun States expected to attend, the conference will foster networking and collaboration among literary enthusiasts.
He stated that the event will commence on Friday with a gala night, setting the stage for meaningful exchanges and engagements throughout the weekend.
