In a significant move aimed at bolstering the development of critical sectors, the Ogun State Government has unveiled plans to establish new ministries dedicated to Mineral Resources, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy, as well as Energy.

Abiodun disclosed this pivotal decision during a meeting with Permanent Secretaries convened at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the necessity of granting full ministerial status to these sectors, as it would enable the administration to effectively pursue its objectives in these areas.

The separation of the Ministry of Youths from the Ministry of Sports is also in the pipeline as part of preparations for the establishment of the Ogun State Sports Commission.

Of notable significance is the creation of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, a forward-thinking step that aligns with the state’s prospects of becoming an oil-producing region.

Governor Abiodun conveyed his commitment to addressing electricity generation, especially following the unbundling of the energy sector.

The Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy also comes to the forefront, underscoring Ogun State’s position as Nigeria’s education capital.

The state boasts a considerable number of tech-savvy youths, and this new ministry will be instrumental in addressing their employment needs.

Governor Abiodun spoke about the rationale behind these changes: “We intend to establish about three or four new ministries; the Ministries of Mineral Resources; Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Economy, and we are creating the Ministry of Youths.

“We are removing the Ministry of Sports from the Ministry of Youths because we want to set up the Ogun State Sports Commission. We are also considering setting up the Ministry of Energy.”

Acknowledging the importance of synergy between political appointees and civil servants, Governor Abiodun stressed the need for cooperation and collaboration.

He emphasized that their collective goal is the overall well-being and welfare of the administration and the people of Ogun State.

Governor Abiodun also took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the unwavering support received from civil servants and the resounding victory he secured in a recent Tribunal judgment.

The announcement of these new ministries marks a significant turning point in Ogun State’s pursuit of growth and development, as it strategically addresses critical sectors crucial for the state’s prosperity and future
