Ogun Assembly Workers Embark On Three-Day Warning Strike

In a move to express their dissatisfaction with the present administration, the Ogun chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), has initiated three days warning strike, shutting the assembly gate and demanding that the state government immediately implement the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).

The PASAN chairman, Ayotunde Ojediran, addressed reporters outside the assembly’s entrance in Abeokuta on Thursday.

He said ” The union had earlier written a letter to the state government stating all the demands, and we issued a 21-day ultimatum to meet the demands but nothing was done till the ultimatum lasted.”

He emphasized that, it was necessary for the workers to express their unhappiness with the present administration.

Ojediran stated that, the application of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure to the staff in the state assembly and House of Assembly Service Commission would put them on the same level as the State Judiciary, who are benefiting from the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJESS).

The PASAN chairman, however, raised concerns about the state government’s noncompliance with Sections 10(2), 13, and 14 of the State Assembly Service Commission Law, 2018, as well as the Statutory Offices (State Emoluments) Amendment Law, 2018.

He pointed out that, noncompliance has resulted in the nonpayment of proper salary and allowances to the assembly’s three most senior officers since their respective dates of appointment.

He however said, ” We are presently in negotiation with the state government but as we speak we are yet to reach any meaningful agreement.”

Warning of further action if the state government failed to respond positively, Ojediran declared, “If there is no positive response coming from the state government, we will call for an indefinite strike immediately.”
