The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Dapo Abiodun and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration following the Federal Government’s takeover of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).
The opposition party described the development as a glaring indictment of the state government’s incompetence in managing public institutions.
In a statement issued on Saturday hpby its Publicity Secretary, Otunba Arc Kayode Adebayo, the PDP argued that the takeover was not an achievement but an embarrassing confirmation of the state government’s failure.
The party highlighted that TASUED was established under the administration of former Governor Gbenga Daniel (2003–2011) to expand access to higher education and create employment opportunities.
However, it accused successive APC administrations, particularly Abiodun’s, of neglecting the university despite operating a trillion-naira budget annually.
“It is shameful that the same APC government, which frequently boasts of economic progress, cannot adequately fund one of its most significant academic institutions.
The takeover of TASUED is a necessary intervention to save the university from further decline due to the reckless abandonment by the Abiodun-led administration,” the statement read.
The PDP expressed concern that Ogun State had now lost control over an institution originally designed to serve its indigenes.
The party lamented that the neglect of TASUED was part of a broader trend of poor governance affecting other state-owned higher institutions and critical infrastructure.
The statement also pointed to the deteriorating road network in the state, citing the recent collapse of the Odo’pako bridge in Ota, which connects Ogun and Lagos States.
The PDP accused the Abiodun administration of gross inefficiency, stating that the bridge, hurriedly tarred last year, had already failed before the peak of the rainy season.
“Every discerning mind knows that the ruling APC government in Ogun has demonstrated a lack of capacity to run a government that works for its people.
“Perhaps Mr. Abiodun and his associates expect Ogun taxpayers to beg the Federal Government to take over the entire machinery of government in the state,” the PDP said.
The opposition party called on stakeholders and concerned citizens to demand a detailed account of government spending on education and seek urgent intervention to prevent further collapse of the state’s public higher institutions.
It emphasized that governance is about responsibility, not excuses, and accused the government of attempting to mask its failures with media propaganda.
“The takeover of TASUED by the FG confirms the disturbing state of public education in Ogun State. No amount of media deodorization can cover up this reality.
“Mr. Abiodun must be held accountable for the fortunes of the state, and we must not allow flimsy excuses to bury the future of our institutions,” the statement concluded.
