Ogun State Security Outfit Apprehends Alleged Rapist

In a swift operation, So-Safe Corps, the Ogun State-owned security outfit, apprehended a 21-year-old commercial tricyclist, Ridwan Lukman, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old groundnut hawker in the Ota area of the state.

Lukman was taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday by So-Safe officers during a routine patrol in the area.

The suspect was allegedly attempting to force himself on the 14-year-old victim when the security operatives intervened.

Upon arrest, Lukman denied the allegations, claiming that he misunderstood the girl’s actions, thinking she was making advances towards him as he patronized her. However, upon further investigation, the victim underwent a medical examination which confirmed penetration.

Subsequently, Lukman confessed to the offense during interrogation.

The suspect was promptly transferred to the Sango Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that the case was reported on January 12, 2024, by the victim’s mother.

She disclosed that a medical examination was conducted, and Lukman voluntarily admitted to the unlawful act during interrogation.

“The suspect will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation,” added Odutola.

This arrest follows a concerning trend of sexual offences in the state. In November, two suspected sexual offenders in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl, recording the act.

Additionally, a 40-year-old secondary school teacher, Olaniran Adewale, faced arrest in the Iberekodo area for sexually assaulting girls.
