The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted both the Jigawa State Government and the Federal Government for failing to find a lasting solution to the annual flooding ravaging the state.

PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election in Jigawa State, Mustapha Sule Lamido, frowned at the development when he paid a sympathy visit to IDP camps at Kiyawa, Miga, Buji and Jahun LGAs.

DAILY POST reports that flooding has wrecked havoc in 14 LGAs in Jigawa State, resulting to the death of 33 persons and displacement of families and destruction of farmlands.

Lamido blamed the APC administration in Jigawa for failing to provide a lasting solution to the lingering flooding problem across the state.

He said, “We must have lasting solution to this problem because we can’t be having temporary solution over and over interns of managing the situation

“I was disappointed with the victims’ situation, therefore I am calling on the Federal Government and the state government to do anything humanly possible to provide solutions to the problems.”

He noted that providing a lasting solution to the annual flooding is one PDP’s promises during the 2023 election campaign.

“We have designed possible ways to mitigate the problem, therefore we are ready to assist the state government with some advice to ensure our people get out of this problem,” Lamido added.

DAILY POST reports that Governor Umar Namadi said 40,000 people and over 80,000 households were displaced; 7,000 houses destroyed and over 6,500 farmlands washed away by floods in over 135 communities across the state.

He said the Jigawa State Government has set aside N8.3 billion for the reconstruction of roads, bridges and culverts damaged by recent floods.
