Police Arrest Vigilante Commander, Three Members For Robbery  In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended four members of a local vigilance group, including their commander, Ododo Kingsley Obubochi, for their involvement in a robbery incident in the Isiokpo area of the state.

The other arrested individuals are Mark Prince, Destiny Onuigbo, and Azubuike Orlu. According to the police, these individuals allegedly exploited their positions within the vigilante group to gain access to the group’s armory, which they then utilized to carry out criminal activities.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the events leading to their arrest unfolded during a vigilante member’s burial, where a scrap dealer named Prince approached Ododo.

Prince, posing as a businessman, proposed a joint venture involving the dismantling and sale of a mast owned by Globacom, situated on a secluded road in Elele.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that negotiations ensued, leading to Ododo agreeing to provide firepower and monitoring during the operation, while Prince’s team was responsible for dismantling the mast.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered further that a fee of NGN 500,000.00 was agreed upon for Ododo’s participation.

However, their criminal activities were interrupted when a police patrol unit intercepted them during the operation. A confrontation ensued, resulting in the arrest of Ododo and his accomplices, while two vandals managed to escape.

Items recovered from the suspects include three automatic pump-action guns, one live cartridge, one plier, one machete, and two Qlink motorcycles without registration numbers.

Expressing concern over the involvement of vigilante members in criminal enterprises, Rivers State Commissioner of Police,  Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reiterated the command’s commitment to apprehending individuals engaged in criminal activities, regardless of their affiliations or positions within law enforcement structures.
