Seventeen victims abducted over a month ago in Niger State have been rescued by operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, working in synergy with the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The victims, comprising women and children, were rescued on Wednesday, April 10, in Kaduna, more than five weeks after their abduction from Sarkin Pawa, Niger State, on March 3, 2025.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the rescue operation reflected the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s commitment to intelligence-led and inter-agency collaborative policing.
Among the rescued victims were Williams Ubadia (15), Samuel Ezekiel (15), Duza Ezekiel (13), Ishaku Ishaya (12), Sunday Ezekiel (8), Jessy Friday (6), Rebecca Ezekiel (32), Jummai Ishaya (32), Terriza Friday (30), Alice Ezekiel (35), Victoria Ishaya (32), Blessing Ezekiel (20), Gloria Ubadia (13), Gift Ubadia (10), Charity Ezekiel (9), Alheri Ishaya (5), and Favour Ezekiel (1).
All victims have been taken to the Police Clinic in Kaduna for medical examination and were certified to be in stable and sound health.
“In line with the operational directives and strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, geared towards tackling violent crimes, dismantling criminal networks, and enhancing public safety across the country, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant breakthroughs in recent operations conducted in Kaduna State,” Adejobi said.
In a related operation on the same day, officers intercepted a commercial Volkswagen Sharan vehicle at the Kawo Central Motor Park in Kaduna.
A search of the vehicle revealed 21 fabricated AK-47 rifles hidden inside.
The suspect, identified as Jamilu Suleiman, 27, a resident of Rafin Guza, Kaduna, was arrested and is currently in custody.
He reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that he was acting on instructions from a union member to deliver the weapons to an unidentified recipient.
The police said a full-scale investigation had commenced to uncover and dismantle the arms trafficking network.
In another development, the Kaduna State Police Command foiled an armed robbery operation at Doggi Farm along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway on April 9.
Acting on a distress call around 5:00 a.m., a team from Tafa Division engaged a gang of about 30 armed robbers in a gun battle.
Two of the suspects were shot dead at the scene, while two others were arrested with injuries. One of the injured suspects later died at the hospital, while the other is currently aiding police investigations.
Adejobi added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and ensure justice is served.
