The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) emphasizes dedication from pregnant corps members, asserting that “pregnancy is not a disability.”

Mrs. Mofoluwaso Williams, Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, delivered this message during her presentation titled “Addressing Emerging Challenges in Corps Administration through NYSC/Stakeholders” at the Kogi Annual 2023 Corps Employers Workshop, hosted at the Government House, Lokoja.

Williams urged employers and organizations not to allow pregnancy to be used as a pretext for avoiding national responsibilities.

She stated, “Every workplace presents its unique challenges, as do our various primary assignment locations where corps members serve their one-year mandatory duty to the nation.

“Pregnancy is not an ailment; therefore, organizations should not permit corps members to use it as an excuse in any manner.”

Furthermore, she emphasized that pregnant or nursing corps members who employ pregnancy as an excuse for absenteeism or misconduct towards officers should not be tolerated.

Williams expressed concern about “inactive corps members who are unwilling to work but seek compensation for unfinished tasks, or those who are unwilling to go the extra mile for the organization.”

She urged employers to take the engagement of corps members seriously and ensure that they assist in their development as competent, trustworthy, and capable future leaders.
