Regnum Medical University, Anthony, Lagos, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission to commence academic activities and admit students for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval clears the private university to admit students into six health-related professional programmes, including Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy and Radiography.
The development followed a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of professors and specialists from the NUC, who assessed the institution’s academic programmes, infrastructure, library facilities, laboratories, equipment and faculty strength.
Following the exercise, the university was cleared to commence admissions into the approved programmes.
The programmes available for the 2026/2027 academic session are Medicine and Surgery leading to MBBS; Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D); Nursing Science (B.N.Sc); Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS); Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT); and Radiography (B.Rad).
The university said the programmes had been structured to combine classroom-based learning with practical and clinical training, with the aim of producing competent healthcare professionals.
Regnum Medical University is located at 326–330 Ikorodu Road, Anthony, Lagos, a location with access to major parts of the metropolis, including Maryland, Palmgrove, Ikeja, Oshodi and Lagos Island.
The institution said its facilities include lecture rooms, laboratories for basic science, basic medical science and basic clinical science, simulation centres, a digital library, ICT facilities, rehabilitation facilities and student hostels.
The university also said it had assembled experienced academics and health professionals to implement its curricula.
The institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor is Professor Akin Osibogun, a Professor of Community Medicine and former Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, who served in that capacity for eight years. He is also a former President of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
The university said Osibogun would be supported by other professors and experienced academics in the various health professions.
Speaking on the commencement of academic activities, the university management said its focus was to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and clinical practice.
“Our goal is to create an environment where learning meets practice. We are committed to training healthcare professionals who can compete anywhere in the world,” the institution said.
As part of its clinical training arrangements, the university said it had entered into agreements with hospitals under the Lagos State Health Service Commission for clinical training and affiliations.
According to the institution, the arrangements are intended to expose students to practical healthcare delivery and enable them to acquire clinical experience alongside their academic training.
The university also said it had made provisions for student accommodation, including air-conditioned hostels, 24-hour power and water supply, internet connectivity and security.
Other facilities listed by the institution include a cafeteria, recreation areas and transportation services for students travelling to clinical training sites.
The establishment of the university comes amid persistent concerns over Nigeria’s shortage of healthcare professionals and the migration of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health workers abroad.
Regnum Medical University said it hoped to contribute to addressing the manpower gap by expanding opportunities for professional health education in Nigeria and producing graduates capable of contributing to the country’s healthcare system.
Applications for the 2026/2027 academic session are now open to qualified candidates from Nigeria and other countries.
Prospective applicants are required to possess the relevant UTME and O’Level qualifications in the sciences, while admission into the respective programmes will be subject to the university’s requirements and applicable regulatory conditions.
The university said admission counselling sessions for prospective students and parents would be held physically and virtually in the coming weeks.
