Rivers Gov  Boosts Security Measures  Ahead Of PEPC Judgment

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced heightened security measures in the state to ensure the prevention of any potential lawlessness preceding the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) scheduled for Wednesday, September 6.

In a statement personally signed by Governor Fubara, he expressed concern regarding reports of potential threats to public order by supporters of certain presidential candidates who may be dissatisfied with the PEPC’s verdict.

The Governor emphasized the significance of election petitions and their outcomes as integral to the nation’s democratic process, built upon the foundation of the rule of law and the judiciary’s pivotal role as the peaceful and ultimate resolver of societal disputes.

Governor Fubara urged those who may find themselves disappointed by the judgment not to resort to violence and instead reminded them of their option to appeal at the Supreme Court, where they must respect the final decision.

He stated, “As citizens, we are all bound by the rule of law, which allows no room for violence and threats to public safety, peace, and security in our democratic contests for political power and the right to govern the people.”

Governor Fubara underlined that while the Rivers State Government recognizes citizens’ right to protest, it will not tolerate any unlawful or unnecessary protests that violate the rule of law and jeopardize collective peace and security.

He advised presidential candidates and their political parties to exercise control over their supporters and activists, ensuring they avoid actions that could disrupt public safety in Rivers State.

The Governor informed the public that security agencies have been placed on the highest level of alert and have been instructed to take all necessary measures to prevent security breaches before, during, and after the judgment.

He assured residents that adequate security measures are in place to promptly address any potential security threats, encouraging everyone to continue their lawful activities without fear for their safety.

Additionally, he urged the public to promptly report any suspicious gatherings or activities to security agencies for immediate action
