The Ogun I Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the appointment of Deputy Comptroller Mohammed Salisu Shuaibu as the new Acting Customs Area Controller.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that this transition follows the statutory retirement of Comptroller James Ojo, who leaves behind a legacy of achievements in anti-smuggling operations and revenue generation.
A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Hammed Oloyede explained that Deputy Comptroller Shuaibu, an officer renowned for his expertise in border operations, brings a robust track record to his new role.
Oloyede in the statement said, before this appointment, he had served as the Coordinator of the now-disbanded Joint Border Patrol Team, Sector 2, Southwest, where he was instrumental in combating smuggling and fostering inter-agency cooperation.
In his inaugural address, Shuaibu pledged to uphold the Command’s mandate of revenue generation, border security, and trade facilitation.
Stressing teamwork and innovation, he promised to strengthen ties with border communities and key stakeholders.
“It is an honour to lead this strategic Command, which plays a vital role in safeguarding our nation’s economy and security.
“I pledge to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and dedication in fulfilling our responsibilities,” Shuaibu stated.
He also commended his predecessor, Comptroller Ojo, for his remarkable contributions during his tenure.
“Comptroller Ojo’s leadership has left an indelible mark on this Command. I intend to build on the solid foundation he has established,” Shuaibu added.
In his farewell speech, Comptroller Ojo expressed gratitude to the officers and men of Ogun I Command for their support.
He urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor, emphasizing the importance of unity and discipline in achieving sustained success.
The Ogun I Command, located at the strategic Idiroko border, plays a pivotal role in curbing smuggling and facilitating legitimate trade.
The new Acting Customs Area Controller called on all stakeholders to maintain their support for the Command, noting that partnerships are essential to driving economic growth and national security.
