Soyinka Raises Concerns Over Safety Of Agunloye In $6 Billion Mambilla Fraud Case

Renowned Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has expressed deep apprehension about the safety of former Minister of Power and Steel Development, Olu Agunloye, who was remanded in Kuje Prison following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the FCT High Court.

Soyinka, in a statement released on Wednesday, alerted the nation and the government to the justified high-level concern for Agunloye’s safety.

Drawing attention to the tragic fate of Agunloye’s predecessor, the late Chief Bola Ige, who was assassinated in connection with the Mambilla scam, Soyinka emphasised the need for heightened security measures.

Citing the unsolved mystery surrounding Chief Bola Ige’s murder, Soyinka stressed that Agunloye had worked closely with him to uncover Ige’s killers.

He warned against complacency, especially considering the potential dangers faced by those associated with the Mambilla scam.

Soyinka went on to express his concern over the abrupt decision to remand Agunloye in prison, deeming it a sinister and alarming development.

He urged the establishment of an independent, non-partisan commission to thoroughly investigate the expanding scandal that has adversely impacted the nation’s energy needs for the past two decades.

In a stern warning, Soyinka declared, “Let it be understood that if anything happens to this pivotal witness while in custody, the inference will be heard loud, clear, and unambiguous.”

This statement underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate attention to Agunloye’s safety amid the unfolding $6 billion Mambilla fraud case.
