Terrorists in Kaduna have demanded N300 million ransom over a kidnapped female judge, Janet Galadima after killing her eldest son.
The incident occurred in the Mahuta New Extension, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Chief Executive Officer of the House of Justice, Gloria Mabeiam Ballason, condemned the abduction and murder .
In a statement, she explained the harrowing events that led to the death of 14-year-old Victor, the son of Customary Court Judge Janet Galadima.
On the night of June 23, 2024, Judge Galadima and her four sons were abducted from their home while her husband, Dr. Musa Gimba Dutse, a medical doctor, was away on duty in Kano.
“The abductors, reported to be about fifteen in number, took their captives hostage and demanded a huge sum as ransom.
“On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the terrorists shot dead the 14-year-old first son of the Judge when the ransom demanded could not be obtained,” Ballason stated.
Ballason condemned the abduction and murder, stressing that judicial officers under Article 7 of the United Nations Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary deserve protection and adequate security to perform their duties.
She called on the Nigerian State, which has a constitutional mandate under Section 33 and 14(2)b of the 1999 Constitution, to ensure the safety of Judge Galadima, her family, and all citizens.
Describing Victor’s murder as “grisly and blood-curdling,” Ballason declared that no parent deserves the horror of witnessing their child’s death in such a cold, callous manner.
She urged Nigerian security agencies, the Governor of Kaduna State, the Nigeria Bar Association, and the judiciary to act urgently to protect Judge Galadima and her children and ensure justice is served.
The Police spokesperson in Kaduna had yet to respond to inquiries about the incident at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Kaduna State chapter, has issued a statement through its PRO, Dr. Shuaibu Joga, expressing shock over the events.
Dr. Joga highlighted the association’s interaction with Dr. Musa Gimba Dutse, who informed them of the kidnappers’ demand for N300 million to secure his family’s release.
Despite ongoing negotiations and security agencies’ involvement, the terrorists murdered his eldest son to force the ransom payment.
