In a solemn announcement, the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, headquartered in Port Harcourt,has confirmed the recovery of a soldier’s body following a tragic boat accident in Bolo, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The unnamed soldier, part of a mission safeguarding critical national assets in the Niger Delta waterways, lost his life on Saturday, November 25, 2023, when the gunboat he was aboard succumbed to turbulent waves.
Maj. Danjuma, the acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, conveyed the unfortunate incident in a statement issued on Monday.
The soldier was initially declared missing, prompting a swift search and rescue mission that ultimately recovered both the lifeless body and the ill-fated boat.
The statement, titled ‘Headquarters 6 Division Mourns Soldier Killed in Boat Mishap During Operation,’ expressed the deep sorrow felt by the Army. Maj. Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, extended condolences to the bereaved family.
He acknowledged the soldier’s supreme sacrifice in the defense of the fatherland and service to humanity, emphasizing the profound loss felt by the nation and the Nigerian Army.
As Maj. Gen. Abdussalam prayed for the repose of the soldier’s soul and eternal rest, the entire military community mourned the tragic outcome of a mission aimed at safeguarding national interests.
