The Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) has Tasked Residents in Delta state to uptake the Covid-19 testing and vaccination, saying that it will give room for optimal productivity in workplaces.

The State Coordinator, Comrade Ijedinma Omar, gave the charge in a workshop theme “Covid-19 testing and vaccination campaign” held in Asaba, the state capital.

He disclosed that covid-19 testing and vaccination become necessary so that workplaces will be free of covid-19 and optimal productivity will be attained.

He added that with the support of the Global Fund, the NLC has undertaken the project ” Social Mobilization for Covid-19 Testing and Vaccination In workplace” to complement the efforts of the government on public health management in Nigeria with the supervision of the National Agency for the control of Aids

He said that the aim of the project is for NLC to engage in massive mobilization and sensitization of workers and their employers to embrace testing and vaccination against covid-19.

He noted that the project provides the trade union with an opportunity to test run her readiness for emergency situations and preparedness on how to manage future emergencies like the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

He continued that programme also aimed at mobilizing and organizing the workforce in preparedness for recruitment of broader working people to embrace and keep pace with what the trade unions are doing to safeguard the interests of the working people and downtrodden masses.

He called on the government and employers of labour to take measures to minimize the risk of transmission of Covid-19 among workers, visitors, and all those who are involved in business in their respective workplaces by ensuring that there is proper hygiene in the workplace.
