Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peter Akinola Foundation Youth Centre for Industrial Training, Abeokuta, His Grace, Peter Jasper Akinola has explained the rationale for the establishment of the centre.

The former primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican) Communion, who spoke during this year graduation ceremony of the vocational centre said that the centre was primarily established to take unemployed Nigerian youths off the streets.

He lamented that many Nigerian youths are roaming the streets looking for jobs that are not available.

While further explaining the mission of the centre, Akinola said it is all about raising youths, giving them opportunities to acquire skills that would help them earn a living without being a liability on the society.

“Our youths, many of them do not even know what to do with their lives as a result of which they go into crime. What the centre is all about is to raise many of them as we can, give them opportunity to acquire skills.

“When they have skills, they can go back to the world to work with their hands and earn a living. In that way, they will no longer be a liability on the society”, he stated.

One of the sponsors of the centre, Tunde Lemo Foundation, represented by Chief Reuben Sogaolu, charged graduands to put into practice all that they have learnt in the centre.

Sogaolu, who disclosed that 37 of the 94 graduands were sponsored by the Tunde Lemo Foundation also tasked them to be godly as well as be proficient in the tasks they found themselves in future.

Dean of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Blessing Enyindah, expressed delight at the atmosphere under which students study.

Enyindah, while commending the leadership of the centre, urged students to always put into practice all that they have learnt as well as be good ambassadors of the centre.

The Director of the institution, Canon (Engr.) Tunde Awolana, described PAF as a unique vocational centre that has trained thousands of Nigerian youths with technical skills since inception.

The centre which has the goal to help youths to be economically viable was founded in 2011.

    END.
