The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has shed light on why President Bola Tinubu nominated former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to the Federal Executive Council, despite his political affiliation with the opposition.

Speaking at a book launch marking Wike’s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio extolled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a dedicated and results-driven public officer whose track record earned him the appointment.

Akpabio, represented by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, praised Wike’s leadership credentials, noting his performance in previous roles, including as a Local Government Chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister, and two-term governor of Rivers State.

“President Tinubu appointed you because of your impeccable service history,” Akpabio said.

“Your performance in various capacities has been exemplary. As FCT Minister, you’ve transformed Abuja into a model city, turning it into a massive construction site within two years.”

Akpabio celebrated Wike’s journey as a leader who has consistently prioritized progress and unity.

He highlighted Wike’s contributions to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth development, emphasizing his passion for sports and his advocacy for the rights of his constituents.

“Your leadership as governor and now as minister has left a significant mark on Nigeria’s history.

“The bridges you’ve built, both physical and metaphorical, symbolize your dedication to uplifting communities and fostering unity,” Akpabio added.

The Senate President further lauded Wike’s resilience, describing him as a man of integrity and courage.

“Born in a turbulent year, you’ve risen above challenges with fortitude, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political landscape. Your charisma, vision, and unwavering commitment to the next generation are truly inspiring.”

Acknowledging the unwavering support of Wike’s family, Akpabio commended his wife and children for standing by him through trials and triumphs, emphasizing the strength of their partnership.
