Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday charged the newly installed Odemo of Isara Remo, Oba Peter Oluwole Ogunbayo, to unite his domain and clamp down on land grabbing, warning that the credibility of his reign would be judged by his ability to ensure order and inclusive development.
The charge came during the official installation of the monarch as the 38th Odemo of Isara Remo, held at AUD Primary School, where the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, presented the staff of office.
The event attracted prominent personalities, including traditional rulers, government officials and community leaders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Obasanjo stressed that the essence of kingship lies in restoring order and advancing the wellbeing of the people.
“The only reason for a king is to put everything in order. We hope you do more than what you have been doing before you became Odemo,” he said.
Abiodun, in his remarks, described the installation as a significant moment in the history of Isara Remo, noting that the peaceful selection process reflected growing political maturity in the state.
He, however, issued a stern warning against land grabbing, a practice he said the state government “detests,” urging the monarch to take decisive steps to curb illegal land allocations in his domain.
“You must be a father to all and ensure fairness and justice, irrespective of affiliations,” the governor added.
Earlier, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, had urged the monarch to reconcile with his former rivals, emphasising that unity remained critical to sustainable development.
“You need to reach out to your opponents and carry them along. Development can only thrive where there is peace and inclusiveness,” Ajayi said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Remo North Local Government, Oluwamuyiwa Sodade, echoed the call for inclusive leadership, urging the monarch to engage all stakeholders in shaping the future of the community.
The installation followed the death of the former Odemo, Oba Albert Adebose Mayungbe, on May 1, 2025, and was conducted in accordance with the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law (2021) and the 1958 chieftaincy declaration guiding the stool.
In his acceptance speech, Ogunbayo described his emergence as a divine assignment and pledged to run an all-inclusive administration.
“We are one big family. Let us rise above divisions and work together for the development of Isara Remo,” he said.
He outlined plans to engage youths, women, diaspora groups and development associations, while also unveiling a proposed legacy hospital project aimed at improving healthcare services and boosting employment in the community.
