… Union Vows To Sustain Action Until FG Reverses Proposed Concession Of Unity Schools

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has ordered the immediate shutdown of all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide, directing students not to resume for the new academic session until further notice.
The union also directed the closure of offices of the Federal Ministry of Education across the country from Monday, September 14, 2026, in an escalation of its opposition to the Federal Government’s proposed concession arrangements involving the unity schools.
The directive is expected to disrupt the commencement of academic activities in the affected institutions as the union insists that the proposed concession of the schools must be reversed.
In a statement dated September 11, 2026, and signed by the Chairman of ASCSN, Comrade Samson Chigozie Ngadi, the union directed all unit chairmen in the Federal Unity Colleges to ensure strict compliance with the shutdown order.
The association said the decision followed an earlier congress at which its members resolved to resist the proposed concession of the Federal Unity Colleges.
According to the union, the directive covers both the unity schools and offices of the Federal Ministry of Education and will remain in force until further notice.
ASCSN warned that intimidation or threats would not force its members to abandon their position on the concession plan.
The union described the action as a collective struggle to protect the interests of the affected institutions and workers, while urging members nationwide to remain resolute in implementing the directive.
The statement instructed unit chairmen to ensure that the shutdown order was fully enforced across the country.
The association further declared that the industrial action would continue until its demands were addressed, with the reversal of the proposed concession arrangement remaining central to its demands.
The latest development deepens the disagreement between the senior civil servants’ union and the Federal Government over the future management of the Federal Unity Colleges.
It also places additional pressure on the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, as the union intensifies its opposition to the proposed concession of the federally administered schools.
The planned shutdown could have significant implications for thousands of students preparing to resume the new academic session, as well as teachers, administrative workers and other personnel attached to the affected institutions.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the Federal Ministry of Education had yet to issue a response to the latest directive by ASCSN.
