Corps Member Faces 30-Day Extension Over Criticism of Tinubu

A Lagos-based member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ushie Uguamaye, may face a 30-day extension of her service with half pay after publicly criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Uguamaye, who is known as @talktoraye on TikTok, recently posted a video condemning the economic hardship Nigerians have faced since Tinubu assumed office.

Following the video’s circulation, she claimed she received a phone call from an NYSC official threatening her over her remarks.

In another video, Uguamaye disclosed that she had been summoned to the NYSC office in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos, on Monday. She also expressed concerns for her safety, alleging that she had received threats from anonymous sources after the video went viral.

Her comments may have violated the NYSC Bye-Laws (Revised 2011), which prohibit corps members from being “rude to constituted authority” during their service.

The regulation states that any corps member found guilty of such conduct “shall be tried by the Corps Disciplinary Committee and, if found guilty, be liable to extension of service for a period not less than thirty (30) days with half pay.”

Efforts to reach NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu for a response on the matter were unsuccessful.
