… Curfew Imposed in Three LGAs
Hoodlums set ablaze seven mass transit buses in Potiskum, Yobe State amid the #EndBadGovernance protests.
The buses, owned by the local government, were torched at the Potiskum Local Government Secretariat on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses reported that a large group of individuals arrived at the secretariat premises, causing chaos before being intercepted by security forces.
“They came in their numbers, but the security personnel were swift in their response, preventing further damage,” an eyewitness recounted.
Confirming the incident, the Yobe State Police Command Spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim, assured that the perpetrators would be apprehended and prosecuted.
“We are investigating the incident and will ensure those responsible face the full wrath of the law,” Abdulkarim stated, emphasizing the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
In response to the violence, the Yobe State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum and the nearby towns of Gashua and Nguru.
The curfew aims to curb further unrest as some individuals exploit the protests to vandalize and loot government and private properties.
The Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Matters, Dairy Abdulsalam, urged residents to adhere strictly to the curfew to restore peace.
“The public is advised to stay indoors and cooperate with security agencies to ensure safety and stability in the affected areas and the state at large,” Abdulsalam said, highlighting the government’s determination to restore normalcy.
Security agencies have been deployed to enforce the curfew, with strict instructions to prevent any form of violence or breach of peace.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and properties, urging citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The #EndBadGovernance protests, which have swept across various parts of Nigeria, have seen citizens demanding better governance and accountability from public officials.
While largely peaceful, the protests have occasionally been marred by violence and vandalism, prompting concerns about the safety and security of both protestors and the general public.
