Party faithful in the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State have launched the ADJYAYI Independent Campaign Group, a support movement mobilising grassroots backing for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and the party’s candidate for the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye.
The group, convened by a former Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Chief Wole Enilolobo, also pledged support for other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Enilolobo said the initiative was established to complement, rather than compete with, the existing APC structure and strengthen the party’s presence across wards and polling units.
Speaking at the inauguration, he said the group would work in synergy with APC leaders and established party structures to mobilise voters and secure victory for Yayi, Adeleye and other party candidates.
“AICG was not intended to create a parallel political structure or undermine the APC, but to build synergy with party leaders and existing structures,” Enilolobo said.
He said the group’s activities would be guided by peaceful, lawful and responsible political engagement, urging members to deploy their networks, experience, ideas and resources towards the collective objective.
The former council chairman also challenged the group to sustain its activities beyond the election season, saying political organisations must build lasting relationships with their communities instead of appearing only when elections are approaching.
He urged members to support programmes focused on youth development, women empowerment, community development and economic opportunities.
“Political movements can only earn lasting public trust when their relationship with the people extends beyond asking for votes during election periods,” he said.
Adeleye, while commending the organisers for bringing party members together, clarified that her attendance at the event did not amount to the formal commencement of her campaign.
She said although the Independent National Electoral Commission had lifted campaign restrictions for presidential and National Assembly elections, the Ogun State APC leadership was yet to officially commence its campaign.
Adeleye said she would abide by the party’s directive before formally launching her campaign.
She, however, urged party members and support groups to commence early mobilisation and build structures capable of reaching voters across the constituency.
The APC candidate warned that personal ambitions and internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in the election.
She said support groups should operate with clear responsibilities, measurable targets and effective ward-level structures.
Adeleye also called for greater involvement of women and youths in the party’s mobilisation and campaign strategy, stressing that electoral victory could not be achieved through social media campaigns alone.
“Elections are ultimately won through people-to-people engagement and not social media alone,” she said.
She further urged APC candidates and support groups to see their individual victories as part of a broader objective of securing the success of the party.
The Chairman of the Ogun State House of Assembly Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, who led APC leaders from Yewa North on a solidarity visit to the event, urged party members to work towards tripling the votes recorded by the party in Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Areas during the 2023 elections.
Adekunbi, a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, described Adeleye as a capable politician whose record in the Seventh Legislature demonstrated her capacity to represent the constituency at the federal level.
He also urged party members to ensure that the huge resources invested in voter registration translated into actual votes for APC candidates in 2027.
He called on party leaders, support groups and grassroots mobilisers to maintain regular contact with voters and effectively deploy the party’s structures ahead of the election.
Other party leaders who attended the event included former senatorial aspirant, Chief Muraino Banjoko; former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Prince Dapo Adeyemi; Vice Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Alhaja Aliu Abisola; Ogun Central Senatorial Women Leader, Chief Kikelomo Delano; State Women Leader, Hajia Aminat Adigun; and representative of the Yayi Door-to-Door Movement in Ifo, Adesola Okunseinde.
The speakers described Adeleye’s candidacy as “sellable”, citing her record of public service and describing her as a politician capable of advancing the interests of the constituency.
They also pledged stronger grassroots mobilisation for Yayi, Adeleye and other APC candidates.
A former House of Representatives aspirant, Evans Dedenbula, commended the party’s progressive agenda and Adeleye’s emergence as its consensus candidate.
Dedenbula donated souvenirs in support of the campaign, while the Convener of Yayi Progressive Partners, Chief Kehinde Oladini, also donated souvenirs to the newly inaugurated group.
The inauguration brought together APC leaders, support groups and party faithful from Ifo and Ewekoro, with speakers repeatedly emphasising unity, grassroots mobilisation and coordinated efforts as critical to the party’s electoral ambitions in 2027.
