The Ogun State Government has allocated a staggering N83.79 billion on its top 20 most expensive capital projects,and set aside N18.97 billion for monitoring and evaluation in the 2024 budget.
The State Governor, Dapo Abiodun had last year presented a total of N703,028,013,431.64 as the Year 2024 Appropriation Bill to the State legislature, out of which N415. 66bn was earmarked for Capital Expenditure while recurrent expenditure to gulp N287. 37bn.
According to data obtained from the Tracka, a Nigerian civic tech platform and non-governmental organization focused on promoting transparency and accountability in government spending, particularly in relation to budgets and public projects, the projects span various sectors, including infrastructure, transportation, education, health, and agriculture.
PLATFORM TIMES spotted a largest chunk of the budget that went into the sectional maintenance and rehabilitation of roads, costing N17.35 billion under the Ogun State Public Works.
The state government allocated N18.97 billion for monitoring and evaluation.
PLATFORM TIMES further reports that key projects include the ongoing construction of five roads in the Sagamu/Ikenne/Iperu area, valued at N4.15 billion, and the construction of a 4-storey Revenue House building at N1.18 billion, undertaken by the Ministry of Finance.
The transportation sector also saw significant allocations, with the construction of a Red Line Metro Rail Station at Ijoko and Ifo/Kajola at N1.25 billion, and the Ogun-Lagos Bus Mass Transit scheme along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, costing N1.36 billion.
Additionally, the state allocated N1.39 billion to kickstart the construction of a new House of Assembly office complex, while N2.17 billion was spent on procuring 25 Toyota Prado VX vehicles for the State House of Assembly.
Other notable allocations include the development of small-scale irrigation for a 500-hectare farm at N211.54 million, the construction and renovation of public secondary schools in Abeokuta North, South, and Ado-Odo Ota LGAs, with a combined cost of over N3.65 billion.
Also, the construction of 100-room hostel facilities at the Ogun State School of Nursing in Abeokuta and Ijebu-Ode, costing N1.89 billion and N1.12 billion, respectively.
