According to him, the operation unfolded at the Galaxy Hotel on Ibogun Road, with the suspects taken into custody at approximately 01:42 a.m.
In his words, the command acted on a security report detailing the cultists’ activities, which indicated that they were planning both their initiation rites and anniversary celebrations.
Responding promptly to the report, the Anti-Cultism Squad was deployed to the scene, resulting in the successful apprehension of the individuals involved.
He therefore revealed that seized items from the cultists included incriminating items, which are; four axes symbolizing their confraternity, seven cutlasses, illicit drugs, cannabis, banners showcasing the cult’s anniversary, and even invitation cards.
He stated, “Today, on the 26th of August, 2023, around 01:05 a.m., acting on intelligence about the 20th anniversary celebration of the Neo Black Movement, commonly known as Aye Confraternity, in the Ifo Forum, I ordered the Tactical Unit and officers from the Ota Area Command to the location. Surveillance was established, and over 300 cult members, including female invitees, were observed at the gathering.”
“Upon noticing the presence of our law enforcement team, which had effectively cordoned off the area, the attendees scattered in all directions. Subsequently, a total of 116 suspects—comprising 70 males and 46 females—were detained.
“Exhibits retrieved during the operation encompassed four axes emblematic of their confraternity, suspected Indian hemp, and a cultist anniversary banner, among other materials.”
The detained suspects have since been transported to the Eleweran police command headquarters, where they are currently undergoing intensive interrogation.
The Commissioner, therefore, strongly warned that the Ogun State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to curbing criminal activities.
He therefore urged all criminal elements to desist from operating within the state’s boundaries, as he affirmed that all police formations within the state have received the directive to intensify efforts to eliminate criminal elements and activities from dark corners within the jurisdiction.
