Respect Land Owners, Oba Of Lagos Tells Igbos

In a bid to address growing concerns and tensions among the Igbo community in Lagos State, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, has appealed to Igbos to cooperate with the state government and respect the “owners of the land.”

The monarch made this call during a meeting with the President-General of Ohanaeze, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, at his palace yesterday.

Recent outcry from some Igbo residents in Lagos highlighted their distress over the demolition of their properties and shops by the state government.

Allegations of ethnic profiling were leveled against the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Oba Akiolu, in addressing these concerns, emphasized that Governor Sanwo-Olu would not intentionally demolish Igbo properties. He urged the Igbo community to collaborate with the state government and abide by established rules and regulations.

“We know Igbos are very hardworking, but you have to respect the owners of the land. We have identified the problem in Nigeria, and what we want is a solution,” stated Oba Akiolu during the meeting.

The traditional leader further reassured the Igbo community, saying, “I am appealing to you in the name of God. The governor cannot deliberately destroy your property. Just play according to the rules of the game. To the Igbo, anybody who wishes the best for Lagos is a Lagosian.

” I assure Ndigbo that nobody will maliciously mistreat you. All of you should cooperate with the Lagos government to move the state forward.”

Oba Akiolu’s call for unity and cooperation underscores the importance of fostering a sense of inclusivity amidst concerns of potential ethnic divisions.

The assurance from the traditional leader aims to alleviate fears within the Igbo community and promote a collaborative effort towards the overall development and prosperity of Lagos State.

As discussions surrounding property demolitions continue, the Oba’s emphasis on respecting landowners and adherence to established rules serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility to maintain harmony and understanding among diverse communities in Lagos.
