In a devastating incident that unfolded on Friday, three revered traditional rulers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State lost their lives in a tragic auto crash.

The fatal collision occurred at Aje Iye and involved a Benz E230 with the plate OLODOGBO and a commercial Scania Truck with registration number 301 XF.

Eyewitnesses recounted the grim scene, revealing that two monarchs succumbed instantly, while a third passed away hours later at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, where desperate attempts were made to save him.

The affected monarchs, namely the Olodogbo of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro, were en route to a social function in a nearby community when tragedy struck.

Six passengers were involved in the crash, with three survivors currently undergoing treatment at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the heartbreaking incident, describing it as a head-on collision on the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway.

He reported that the survivors are receiving medical attention at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, while the victims’ bodies have been entrusted to the hospital’s morgue.

In a parallel development on the same day, Adekanye revealed that a truck caught fire on the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway, leaving nine out of 13 persons with varying degrees of burns.

Thankfully, no lives were lost in the fiery incident, and the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
